The Financial Literacy for Youth (FLY) partners with Sunday Friends to offer a unique Money Management Certification program for parents and children from low-income families to learn money management skills and build financial knowledge and responsibility. FLY believes that investing a small amount of time and resources in students now will help prevent future crises and dependence on social welfare systems. Through partnering with Sunday Friends, FLY has created instructor lead classes, and hands-on practice for the students.
These classes are held at Lowell Elementary School and Anne Darling Elementary School in San Jose on Sundays. During the Money Management Certification program, students develop the skills and attitudes required to break the cycle of poverty. through activities, which emphasize the value of money management, decision making, delayed gratification and funding college. The classes teach students relevant skills necessary for success in the present and future.
