While the need for financial education on campus is clear, many schools are unable to move forward with creating new programs due to budget constraints. To break the cycle, the Financial Literacy for Youth (FLY) created an ambassador program to provide cost-effective and credible financial education among our schools and communities.
The hallmark of the Ambassador Program is a peer-to-peer training model, which was developed with the understanding that teens are more likely to absorb and respect information when it comes from their peers, rather than adults or figures of authority. In our peer financial education curriculum, youth ambassadors teach their peers about the importance of being knowledgeable about their finances.
The first step in serving our community’s need to become financially savvy is to become wiser yourself. The young social entrepreneurs will attend our Money Management Certification Program in-class or enroll in peer financial education curriculum online. Then, they will use their new knowledge, skills and tools to teach their peers and younger youth about personal finance through various activities in classroom, clubs and after-school programs. Throughout the program, the FLY staff will continue work with teen leaders via an online community to provide further guidance to apply financial concepts in real world.
Benefits for FLY Ambassadors:
- Make a difference in not only your life but also the lives of other students in the community.
- Develop leadership skills and learn more about business and managing your finance.
- Work and bond with a group of dedicated individuals.
- Receive community service hours that can be applied to college scholarships.
